Before you ask, these are AI images I just added to prevent this post from being too boring and adding some colour, so if any of the people in the images have 6 fingers, I apologise.
Met with the physiotherapist today, and the outcome was a little better than expected.
He indicated I will be back playing within 6 weeks as the injury isn’t severe, or at least not as severe as I thought. It seems doctors take quite a conservative view. His view is that immobilising for longer than 2 weeks is more damaging, so he wants me out of the immobilising brace, and just using the wrist widget. Muscles weaken, leading to a higher risk of injury if you keep it immobilised, because when you return, there is little muscle strength to protect them. As a result, he’ll move me into rehab at the end of two weeks of immobilisation, which is Saturday.
The short-term perspective on rehab is the following:
- Use stretch bands to move the wrist in every angle possible against the resistance of the band
- If something is sore, stop that exercise immediately and focus on the exercises you can do
- Avoid any activities that are vibration-intensive, as these will delay recovery. i.e. vibration of a mower
At least that’s some good news. Until then, keeping exercise confined to rotation and legs.
